Last April, I had a chance to work remotely from a beautiful island of Madeira. Locals and Europeans believe it is the Hawaii of Europe. I have not been to Hawaii, but I experienced Heaven Earth in Madeira for sure.
I stayed in a little village called Jardim Do Mar that translates as Garden of the Sea. The village was surrounded by beautiful mountains with views of the ocean and waterfalls.
Less than a minute from my home is an entrance to a mountain trail.
I love hiking and in New York City I have to take the subway, Metro North line, and then walk 30 minutes to the nearest hiking trail.
But in Jardim Do Mar I had a trail in my backyard so to speak.
The hike looked intimidating, a bit too long, and my scared Marina mind assumed that not too many people were hiking there.
But there was also brave Marina! And she reminded me that I hike quite extensively and have done plenty of other things I am scared of (surfing, crossing an abyss, spiritual work, and being the COO of a Web 3 start up).
As the two Marinas talked between themselves time was flying by and there were three days left for my stay in Jardim Do Mar. That is when the third Marina stepped in. She was the Kind Marina and she suggested we give the hike a try. Just for 10 minutes to assess how we felt about the difficulty level.
So that is what I finally did. I was blown away by the view of Jardim Do Mar. Yes, it was a bit steep but I could handle it, and I made up my mind, all three of them, to do a full hike the next morning.
It was the best hike of my life. I saw a rainbow, and the smell of wild flowers created the atmosphere of a magical forest. On my left were beautiful wild flowers, trees, waterfalls and on my right the North Atlantic ocean. I met people from all over the world. Photos speak the best.
I am sharing this story that can apply to our everyday lives. We may think something is impossible and while that may be just our scared mind speaking those thoughts may stop us from experiencing something important and beautiful.
So how do we do the impossible?
1. See who is saying that is not impossible and see how you can find a halfway solution to explore it and try doing it.
2. Be prepared. I did bring a lot of water, sunscreen, hiking sneakers + hat.
3. Be open to something that you can not imagine.
4. Just try it.
If it is hard for you to hear all of your Marinas then find a way of peaceful communication between them. I can say meditation can help to learn to listen to them.
