I got an idea for this blog from my personal experience.
The goal I set for myself was to do 35 push ups on my Birthday, which is July 2nd.
I had 4 month of ahead of me. When I sign up for this goal, I did not think, I was excited by an idea. One of my participants at iDEA BOOT CAMP, Kat could do easily 10 push ups even not on her knees, real deal. She told me that she made the goal for herself to do 33 push ups for her Birthday. SO I DID the same. My latest philosophy was that in strong body, there is strong mind and I will do a lot to be strong these days.
So when I came home and tried to do push ups, I could hardly do ONE. There was a moment where I realize that I AM FAR FROM 35 push ups and the excitement was shifting more to realization that I may fail. When I shared my disappointment with Kat she offered to be my accountability partner and even better she sent me a song she used to do her push ups and now we do push ups and yoga together via Skype on Monday/Wednesday at 7 AM. I use her song to do push ups the rest of the week I do on my own. (Well Thursday – I am doing with my best friend Julia and Friday with my sister Olga ☺)
So 3 weeks later and I could do 8 push ups already. I have 14 weeks ahead of me.
If I add 2 push ups extra each week, I can do easily 35 push ups on my Birthday this year (even 36!!!).
Now if you like me got excited and set at first unrealistic goal and willing to make it realistic do 3 things to make it happen:
1. Break it down your goal into the smallest actions/steps you can achieve on daily basis. I can do push ups no matter what, it is only 3 minutes. I do it at my office, I do after my yoga and soon I will do it in Park if I need to. Make it simple and doable.
2. Get yourself an accountability partner. This person can do it with you or you can report to them when task is done. The person should be really interested in your success. Friends are good; coaches are better.
3. Make it a fun activity! The song I use to do my push ups always turn me on ☺ and very energizing. Here is the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4QnIOSn5ZI&feature=related. Not my type of song on regular days, hey it makes me moving and smiling. Find your FUN.
I promise you will see my 35 push ups! I will record it on July 2nd.
