I lOVE TO DANCE, I really do. Dancing is one of those things that allows me to be 100% myself.
It takes me to different places and I feel great after, shiny and new. It makes my heart feel alive.
I have friends who dance at home but I like dancing in groups. There’s something about the collective energy of people’s bodies swaying. That means I love going to clubs and bars where people are dancing their hearts out.
But I also love to sleep. I love to be in bed by 10 pm and wake up by 6 am.
After I turned thirty I stopped going to clubs. I didn’t like the scene any more. Owning a business made me become a responsible adult. I couldn’t show up to meetings and not be fully present. I cared about my business and my clients. That meant I needed to be fully-rested and on my game.
I used to joke with friends that I wish there was a club open from 7-9 pm where you could wear normal clothes and drink water. A club that existed for dancing alone. Two hours would be enough to satisfy my love of dancing without exhausting me. I could still be home in time for bed.
And two years ago it happened.
Tasha Blank created Get Down NYC. It’s a venue where you can come in yoga pants and a sports bra if you want. OR you can look more “Meatpacking appropriate” if that tickles your fancy. Come as you are. There are no strict rules. It opens at 7:00 pm. It was my dream come true! Finally, I had somewhere to go dance.
Except. I didn’t go.
Because I didn’t make time for it. I didn’t make it a priority because it felt frivolous.
This happens to many of us. We have something that’s important to us. Something that we really believe is necessary for us to have a good life. It could be meditation, talking to your grandfather, learning French, planting a tree, whatever. We know it’s important, but we get busy. We get caught up with life and forget to really concentrate on those things that make our lives good.
Running Slow Down Retreats helped me look at my priorities. I learned that if something is important to you: you MAKE TIME for it. Which is why I’ve now started dancing on a weekly basis.
If you need to reconnect with what’s important for you and figure out how to make time for it JOIN Slow Down Retreat!

I will be dancing on 5/19 like no one is watching me in Cielo at Get Down NYC. Join me.
