Lesson Learned: Draw your own map for success.
Location: Delicatessen, Soho, NY
As a mentor and associate of the Membership Committee at BNI Chapter 18 I was to meet Jim Farah, a real estate broker for a cup of coffee. BNI or Business Network International is a successful business to business referral network and Jim was one of four brokers that our chapter was considering as a possible member.
I had met the other three candidates prior to meeting Jim and as we spoke I became convinced of a concept that I have always had faith in: There is no one road map for success. While each candidate was well established and successful in the very competitive field of New York City real estate they were very unique in terms of personality, gender, age, and business approach. What they had in common was an innate confidence in their uniqueness and this I believe led all four of them to find success.
Working with my clients in fields ranging from not-for-profit to creative businesses I see that while we can draw inspiration from other people and the world around us we must hold on to our own one-of-a-kind flavor because that is how we will find our own path.
